Many people find TikTok very hard to stop using. US adults who use it spent about 52 minutes a day on it in 2025, according to eMarketer. That's about 13 full days a year. In February 2026, the European Commission said in preliminary findings that TikTok's own time tools are "easy to dismiss and introduce limited friction".
So a TikTok limit only helps if it's hard to skip. Here are your options on iPhone, from the weakest to the strongest.
What does TikTok's own screen time limit do?
TikTok has a Daily screen time setting. You'll find it under Profile → menu (☰) → Settings and privacy → Time and well-being. TikTok renamed this page in November 2025, so older guides may use a different name.
| TikTok tool | What it does | Does it stop you? |
|---|---|---|
| Daily screen time | Choose 40 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hours, 2 hours, or a custom time. You can set different limits for different days | No. Adults type a code shown on the screen to keep watching |
| Screen time breaks | Reminds you to take a break after 10, 20 or 30 minutes of nonstop use | No. You can snooze it |
| Sleep reminder | Tells you when it's your bedtime | No |
| Weekly summary | Shows how much you used TikTok | No |
For under-18s, TikTok sets a 60-minute daily limit by default. TikTok changes its menus often, so labels on your phone may be slightly different.
Turn these on if you like, but don't expect them to stop you. TikTok's own help page says that at the limit "you can choose to close TikTok or enter the on-screen passcode to return to it".
How do I limit TikTok to 30 minutes a day?
There are three ways. The last two are harder to skip.
1. TikTok's own limit (weakest)
In Time and well-being → Daily screen time, choose Custom and set 30 minutes. The preset options start at 40 minutes.
2. Screen Time (free, but can be ignored)
- iOS 26 and earlier: go to Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit. Tap the Entertainment or Social category name to open it (TikTok's category can differ), choose TikTok, tap Next, set 30 minutes, and tap Add.
- iOS 27: go to Settings → Screen Time → Time Allowances and set a daily time for the category that includes TikTok. Apple says you can change which apps belong in a category.
When the 30 minutes are up, Screen Time shows "Ignore Limit" unless someone else set your Screen Time passcode. When I used Screen Time limits, I found them very easy to skip. Here's how to stop ignoring your own Screen Time limits.
3. A blocker app (hardest to skip)
In YourPriority, a daily limit works like this: you can use TikTok for the time you choose, and after that it's blocked until midnight.
- Open YourPriority and go to the Block tab.
- Tap Block an app and choose TikTok.
- Under "How should it work?", choose After a daily limit and pick 30 minutes. Options go from 5 minutes to 3 hours.
- Choose the days, and tap Save.
After 30 minutes, opening TikTok shows your priorities for today instead of the feed. There's no "Ignore Limit" button, only Review Priorities and Go back.
How do I block TikTok completely, or at certain hours?
If 30 minutes a day still turns into an hour, blocking at set times is often easier than a limit, because the app is simply closed.
- With YourPriority: in the Block tab, choose TikTok and pick All day, or At certain hours, for example 22:00 to 07:00 every day, or 9:00 to 17:00 on weekdays.
- With Screen Time: use Downtime (iOS 26) or Screen Time Schedule (iOS 27), and don't add TikTok to the allowed apps. See How to Lock Apps on iPhone Until a Certain Time for the steps.
- Delete the app. This is the strongest option, but remember TikTok also works in a browser.
How do I stop scrolling TikTok for hours without blocking it?
Use a session limit instead of a daily limit. In YourPriority, Doom Scroll Breaks lock your chosen apps for a short break after you've scrolled for a while. For example: after 20 minutes of scrolling, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube lock for 20 minutes, then open again by themselves.
Time on all those apps counts together, so you can't just move from TikTok to Reels when the break starts. You choose the numbers: break after 15, 20, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, for a break of 5, 10, 20, 30 or 60 minutes.
How do I block tiktok.com in Safari?
TikTok works in a web browser too. On a phone, the website often pushes you to the app, but it can still be used, so block the website as well.
On iPhone, YourPriority blocks apps but not websites yet, so use Apple's free setting:
- iOS 26 and earlier: go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions and turn it on. Tap App Store, Media, Web, & Games → Web Content → Limit Adult Websites, then under Never Allow, tap Add Website and enter
tiktok.com. - iOS 27: a Time Allowance for an app also covers the website the app declares. Check Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions for website settings too.
Which option should I choose?
| Your goal | Best option |
|---|---|
| Use TikTok a little each day | A 30-minute daily limit in a blocker app, or in Screen Time with someone else's passcode |
| Stop long TikTok sessions | Doom Scroll Breaks (for example, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) |
| No TikTok at work or at night | A block at certain hours |
| No TikTok at all | Delete the app and block tiktok.com in Safari |
Limit TikTok to 30 minutes, or lock it at night. YourPriority blocks TikTok after a daily limit, at certain hours, or all day, and Doom Scroll Breaks stop long sessions. Free, with no account.
